  Garnatxa Blanca
About 'Garnatxa Blanca' (this is the Catalan spelling for the grape name) whites (specially the ones made in Priorat, Montsant, Tarragona, and Terra Alta), I have to confess I do love and enjoy them very much.
Of course you can find some not very good whites from garnatxa blanca, but I do believe they are in general very good.

Even in more difficult vintages like 1997 and 1999 some excellent wines were produced, but their prices inevitably keep them out of range of most pockets except for special occasions.
The latest fashion in the area is to apply the Priorat magic to the white varieties, and their are some excellent Garnatxa Blanca whites following Mas d'en Compte's lead in this area.
Despite a similar rainfall to the rest of Catalunya, Priorat is characterised by very dry summers - which produces healthy grapes - and the wines are particularly marked by the soil types.

No wonder - "Garnatxa" is Catalan which points to Spain's northeast corner.
Yes, and it is tinta just as in french it is called Grenache noir, to distinguish it from the "gris" and the wonderful aromatic white grenache.
