Subsidiary summits include Garnedd Ugain (1,065 m), the knife-edge summit of Crib Goch (923 m), Y Lliwedd (898 m) and Yr Aran (747 m).
The Pyg Track is a popular path leading from the car park at Pen-y-Pass along the lower slopes of Crib Goch before zig-zagging above the smaller lake Glaslyn to the col between Snowdon and Garnedd Ugain and thence to the summit of Snowdon.
From there it follows the ridge of Crib Goch, over the summit of Garnedd Ugain and on to the summit of Snowdon.

Garnedd Ugain has its own pinnacles which stand even higher than those on Crib Goch and is likened understandably to a dinosaur back due to the steep and spiny ridge of Crib y Ddysgl.

After a while you will top out onto the summit of Garnedd Ugain where a trig point cairn can be found at its lofty position of 1065M.

The Pyg Track is a popular path leading from the car park at Pen-y-Pass (SH 647557) via Bwlch y Moch, pass of the pigs in Welsh, from which the route’s name is derived.
Care should be taken in poor visibility, particularly on ascending the zigzags, and likewise on the descent, ensuring that the correct path is taken down from the col between Snowdon and Garnedd Ugain.
A brief stroll along lake, and the path zigzags steeply upwards, joins the pyg track, and continues to the col between Snowdon and Garnedd Ugain and on to the summit of Snowdon along the Llanberis Path.

A circuit of the mountains South of Llanberis culminating in Garnedd Ugain (Crib y Ddysgl), including an exploration of the cwm of Clogwyn Du'r Arddu.
There was still a thin covering of snow and ice on the rocks here around 3500', but unfortunately the mist blotted out the views except for a brief glimpse of the N ridge.
Staying on the L side of the fence, the right of way is reached at a farm track where we turned R to the lane end at 573591.

The cloud we've been walking through stop just below the level of the top of Crib Goch - at very close to 3000 ft, in fact - so we can see the peaks sticking out of the cloud, and it remains like this as we walk along the ridge.
06.25 The walk from Garnedd Ugain to Snowdon itself is very straightforward and we reach the summit quickly.
21.03 Garnedd Uchaf is the smallest of the peaks in terms of the relative height compared to the saddles either side.

Also, one minute before I left somebody in a yellow wind cheater appeared from nowhere, touched the trig point and ran off into the mist, never to be seen again.
At 9am, I touched the trig point of Snowdon summit, and set off to Carnedd Ugain, then ran (attempted to run is more accurate) down to the ridge off Crib y Ddysgl.

There are only two ways to go, straight on or back the way you came.
Work your way through the pinnacles and down into the obvious dip before scrambling up the ridge of Garnedd Ugain.

Snowdownia is the name given to the mountainous area in the county of Gwynedd, with 14 peaks over 3,000ft/915m, culminating in Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa itself (3,560ft/1,085m), followed by Crib Goch (3,023ft/921m), Crib-y-Ddysgl or Garnedd Ugain (3,493ft/1,065m), Lliwedd (2,947ft/898m) and Yr Aran (2,451ft/778m).
The best view of the whole group is to be had from Capel Curig, but the peaks themselves can be seen from Porthmadog or the Nantlle valley.

An easy escape route lies on the col between Crib Goch and Garnedd Ugain that drops northwards into Cwn Uchaf.
The way ahead to Garnedd Ugain takes the Crib y Ddysgl ridge that offers milder but still exciteing scrambling at times.
The rest of the traverse is fantastic but beware, the scary bit may be over but don't be complacent about the descent from Snowdon.

 The 14 Peaks
From the outlier you need to return to Carnedd Llewellyn before heading off North to Foel Grach and Garnedd Uchaf (recently added to the 14 peaks to make it the 15 peaks!).
Finally head off from Garnedd Uchaf to the North East and find the wall which leads to the summit of your last peak- Foel Fras.
Having completed the walk you need to make your way off the hills.

We started off well enough and were soon enjoying scrambling and climbing along the ridgeline known as Crib y Ddysgl.
The trig point marking Garnedd Ugain was successfully found however ‘the path’ eventually led us to the top of a scree slope, at the bottom of which was the path that would lead us to the minibus pick up point and so we missed the peak of Crib Goch.
Coming down the slope was generally attempted in one of three ways; standing, sitting or sliding or commonly, a mixture of all three.

Tourists walk up from Llanberis following the railway to the top, mountaineers tackle the 300m rock climbs on Y Lliwedd, walkers with taste come up from Rhyd Ddu or the Snowdon ranger while scramblers revel in the knife edge excitment of the Snowdon Horseshoe.
Despite the crowds I am always drawn back to Snowdon, for me the horseshoe that surrounds Cwm Dyli resembles a mini Everest with Yr Wyddfa as Chomolungma, Garnedd Ugain as Lhotse, Crib Goch as Nuptse and Y Lliwedd as Pumo Ri not forgetting Yr Aran as Changtse.
Up to the fiftys all the british Everest pioneers including Mallory and Edmund Hillary trained on Snowdon and the Everest room at the nearby Pen y Gwryd hotel is festooned with memorabilia and signatures of many famous mountaineers are scrawled on the ceiling.
