 What are manga? -Adult manga
(Although the myth of a ‘people’s art form’ created by the most socially disadvantaged citizens of the country still sticks to all manga, in the case of gekiga, it may be not so much of a myth.) Famous gekiga publications were Kôdansha’s ‘Shônen Magazine’ (å°Â‘年マガジン) and the independent GARO.
Gekiga were realistic, often full of social and political engagement, and generally considered ‘anti-establishment’.

In addition Boilet wishes to refer to novelle manga as being in the french feminine form (la) as opposed to the French masculine form (le) which is used for the very mainstream action-oriented manga that is usually published in France.
