Sources at the meet told Garowe Online that VP Afqura and other Puntland officials disagreed with the continuation of donor funds allocated for Sool and Sanaag regions to be distributed via Hargeisa, capital of the self-declared Somaliland Republic.
Donor country representatives at the Garowe meeting informed the Puntland leadership that their job was not to interfere in local political affairs but to distribute aid according to regulations.

Speaking at a press conference Saturday in Mogadishu, Abdurahman Ai Mudey said that 7 battlewagons — pick-up trucks mounted with heavy guns — were taken by Islamist militia in the Livestock Market area of Mogadishu after suspicions of an Ethiopian connection.
However, independent sources have confirmed to Garowe Online that the captured battlewagons belonged to businesspeople who intended to transport militia and weaponry to parts of Galgadud region in central Somalia.

The United Nations Mine Action Program, which had in 2000 and 2001 taken exploratory steps to set up mine action offices in Mogadishu, Baidoa and Garowe, was forced to abandon its efforts in 2002 due to insecurity in all of those areas.
