Amazon.com: Books: LINCOLN AT GETTYSBURG: THE WORDS THAT REMADE AMERICA
Wills situates the Gettysburg Address in the Greek Revivalism exemplified by Edward Everrett (the forgotten featured speaker at the dedication of the Gettysburg cemetary), as well as in the Transcendentalist movement of Theodore Parker and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Garry Wills has written a marvelous and meanigful book that adds luster and new life to a speech that most of us heard and did not fully appreciate in school.
Nearly a decade has passed since Garry Wills won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award for "Lincoln at Gettysburg," but the magnitude of his achievement is measured by the continued interest which book lovers have lavished on this thoughtful and debate-stirring work of history.

But of course Phyllis Garry denies she said a knockdown was a slip (or was it that a slip is an lady¹s undergarment?), and obviously the three respected members of the Sarasota ringside press are hearing impaired.
From ringside, it looked like the last knockdown could¹ve been as a result of a clash of bodies, but make no mistake, McGrady was hurt and the fight should¹ve been stopped, as it was by referee Max Parker Jr.
At my request, Penley contacted Phyllis Garry, whose husband referee Brian Garry was the sitting next to her and was the knockdown timekeeper for the Smith-McGrady fight, as to her version of the conversation she had with the press after the fight.

Amazon.com: George Clinton with Parliament Funkadelic: The Mothership Connection (1985): DVD
Visually, you gotta love the classic outfits sported by all the members of the funk mob, like Maceo Parker and the Horny Horns, laidback genius Bernie Worrell, Stingray Davis, Grady Thomas, Calvin Simon (seen rarely), the Brides of Funkenstein, and especially Garry Shider with diaper and pacifier.
My only legitimate beef with this package is the lack of documentation or background about the concert recorded, and a personnel listing of the huge mob on stage would have been helpful.
You will experience the landing of the mothership, and just before the encore there's a guest appearance by Bootsy Collins' and Sly Stone's bands.

Success came in 1976 with the release of Parliament's album Mothership Connection and the single "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)," which earned a gold record.

Led by bassist Billy Bass Nelson, guitarist Eddie Hazel, drummer Tiki Fulwood, and classically trained keyboardist Bernie Worrell, Funkadelic incorporated the influence of amplified, psychedelic rock into its distinctive sound.
However, by the early 1980s the large overhead and multifaceted legal identity of the group led to a collapse of the enterprise.

JR.com: Parliament - Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome in Music: Funk:
Parliament: Glenn Goins, Garry Shider (vocals, guitar); Cordell Mosson (vocals, bass); George Clinton, Ray Davis, Debbie Wright, Jeanette Washington, Lynn Mabry, Dawn Silva (vocals); Michael Hampton (guitar); Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Rick Gardner, Richard Griffith, Clay Lawrey, Darryl Dixon, Valerie Drayton, Danny Cortez (horns); Bernie Worrell (keyboards, synthesizer); Jerome Brailey (drums, percussion).
The first of P-Funk mastermind George Clinton's many bands, Parliament was formed as a doo-wop group, but later became just one of several outlets for Clinton's outrageous blend of funk, rock and the absurd.
Other highlights include the Glenn Goins showcase of "Bop Gun" and the loose and groovy "Funkentelechy." Often dismissed as a party band, Parliament's edgy experimentalism and loose, textured structures move the mind as well as the ass.
