Gary Larson (born in Tacoma, Washington on August 14, 1950) is the creator of The Far Side, a comic panel which appeared in many newspapers for fourteen years until Larson's retirement January 1, 1995.
Larson graduated from Washington State University in 1972, with a degree in Communications.
Larson was recognized for his work with the National Cartoonist Society Newspaper Panel Cartoon Award for 1985 and 1988, and their Reuben Award for 1990 and 1994.

I love the two cartoons on page 80 (the end of the general cartoon section) that tell us The Far Side cartoons were all a dream of a man and the cavemen, cows, nerdy kids all looked like members of his family.
There is also an Afterword by Gary Larson that tells a tale his father drew on his kitchen table about a kid in school, drawing a box that becomes a lightbulb then becomes his mum bending over.

I have been and still am a big fan of Gary's work, which I have never seen being topped by any other cartoonist (anybody willing to compete may find some basic hints on the picture to the right ;-)
In the early days of the Internet I set up this Web site to showcase some of Gary's art-work, for the pleasure of people familiar with it and to introduce those who are new to it.
Thus, I never understood and still don't understand why Gary apparently urged other people to take down their fan-sites (there is a letter floating around supposed to originate from him but I never received an 'official' copy of it)
