Moulton, speaking from his office on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, said most of the entries will be culled from his one-volume edition.
Moulton, who was an adviser for Ken Burns' 1997 film, "Lewis and Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery," continued to teach at least one course a semester during all his years of editing the journals, and he has been teaching full-time since completing the project.

Washington State University small-fruit researcher Gary Moulton is evaluating rootstock for pinot noir wine grapes at WSU's Northwest Washington Research and Extension Center near Mount Vernon.
The field trials, which Moulton has been conducting since 2000, have received about $14,000 a year from an annual pool of about $170,000 in tax money collected on wine sales in Washington.
The Wine Advisory Committee's decision not to support Moulton's research this year doesn't mean the group won't support it in the future, Wildman said.

Volume One of The Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Lincoln: University of Nebraska Press, 1983, edited by Gary E. Moulton, is an oversize atlas which reproduces all the maps drawn during the expedition.
Moulton theorizes that Clark relied on compass readings for his "courses." His compass traverse notes are at the beginning of nearly every journal entry.
According to Moulton, Clark "probably employed the route traverse method, taking bearings at each turn of the trail or bend in the river and plotting those shifts on his maps....
