In Men At Arms, we find that Gaspode has regained his intelligence and speech as a result of sleeping too close to the High Energy Magic laboratory in Unseen University and being exposed to magical seepage.
Gaspode becomes the "thinking brain" dog (like a "seeing eye" dog) for Foul Ole Ron, and eventually joins the Canting Crew, a group of variably insane homeless people who have, as aforementioned, no difficulty in believing in talking dogs.

Gaspode was first introduced in Moving Pictures when as Gaspode the Wonder Dog he was trying to break into the clickies, there was never any parts for a cynical bundle of dust and fleas, even if he could talk.
Gaspode found a new use for his talents when back in Ankh-Morpork he established a friendship with Carrot who had an irresistable urge to keep giving the shabby little mongrel at his feet a biscuit, there was always this little voice he kept hearing, telling him to "Give the nice little doggy a biscuit".
Gaspode also became very keen on Angua especially in her werewolf form.

Gaspode is the assemblage of the two machines that Tricky sent me and the old SS10 I bought off of git.ads.
Gaspode took about fourteen hours to compile everything in the ports tree enough to get mozilla-firebird working...
The downshot was that 2.2 kinda lacks that whole iptables support kinda thing, which unfortunately means that the firewall script doesn't run and Gaspode's ass is exposed to the world in all of its port sniffing glory.
