There are quite a few other kinds of hatchetfish that you may find available such as the marbled hatchetfish (Carnegiella strigata), flwing hatchetfish (Carnegiella marthae), dwarf hatchetfish (Carnegiella schereri), spotted hatchetfish (Gasteropelecus maculatus), and river or common hatchetfish (Gasteropelecus sternicla, Clupea sternicla, Thoracocharax sternicla).
The river or common hatchetfish is often confused with the silver; they are from different areas of South America, and the common hatchetfish is silver with a brownish back, and has a fl stripe running from the gills to the tail.
