Ramsey Island is just off St. David's and you can take boats cross the water to see the grey seals on the Island.

Ramsey Island is opposite and the lifeboat station is at St. Justinians which itself is near the smallest city in Great Britain, St. Davids.
Skokholm is very important as it is the home to tens of thousands of Manx Shearwater birds, a bird that leaves its burrow at daybreak, not to return until after dark in order to avoid predators such as the herring gulls.
My son and I had come early to fish for mackerel, as did the men who can be seen on the rocky outcrop to the right of the boat.

The islands of Ramsey, Skomer and Skokholm are readily accessible to experienced kayakers, including the notorious Bitches Rapids in Ramsey Sound.

Skomer MNR includes part of the Marloes peninsula from Musselwick Sands to the northern coast of Gateholm Island, in addition to Skomer and Midland Island.
After Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel, Skomer was the second MNR to be designated and these sites remain the only two such protected areas around the coast of the UK.
The whole of the north Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion coastline has a very high level of landscape quality and a wide range of conservation interests and the NT manages many sites in the region including the whole of Ramsey Island, which is leased to the RSPB.

Recorded at 20 metres depth, S.W. Gateholm, Pembrokeshire, on hydroid Nemertina ramosa with small coil of eggs present at the base of the hydroid.
And it was on a patch of this silt between the boulders that the nudibranch was discovered at a depth of 8 metres.
It has not been recorded intertidally, and its infrequency of reporting by divers maybe because it inhabits silty conditions which tend to be unpopular with divers because of their poor visibility when the silt is churned up, and because such sites do not prove as interesting as hard rock areas.

Different subdivisions of the MNR (1,2 and 3) were considered, but the main area for fishing is around Skomer island, so there would be strong objections from fishermen to a closure of what they consider their prime grounds if that part of the MNR were chosen.
When bad weather interrupts fishing either on the north side or south side then fishermen can still operate in sheltered conditions on the other side, so a north/south split (3) would not be acceptable to fishermen either.

This beach is cleaner and sandier but is not ideal for bathing due to currents.
At present, the perimeter track and main runways are still there and they provide easy access to the cliffs at the top of Marloes Sands.
From here you can see Gateholm, Skokholm and Skomer islands and in the distance, on a clear day, the white-topped island of Grassholm, home to a huge gannet colony (no prizes for guessing what the white top is made of!).

I put this down to the funneling effect of the estuary and assured myself that it would not be so bad as we got further out to sea.
This turned out to be the case and we enjoyed chasing after the next somewhat larger and faster yacht as we beat towards Gateholm Island and then alongside Skokholm Island.
Still in the races we were having a lively time and the Magnum 21 perfomed spectacularly well handling everything that the Irish Sea could throw at her with aplomb.

There are no facilities of any kind on the beach itself, but bathing is safe, and there are plenty of rock pools to be explored.
Two of Pembrokeshire’s ‘Scilly Isles’, the nature reserves of Skokholm and Skomer, can be viewed from the cliff-tops, while at low tide it is possible to walk over the sands to the smaller Gateholm Island, which is in the care of the National Trust.
The area offers excellent family bathing and is well-served at the northern end by beach shops, refreshment kiosks, toilets and a car park.

The return run is identical but as you close on Sally Port stay close into shore so you do not feel the effects of the outgoing tide too much from Portsmouth Harbour.
Skomer is a National Trust Island, so landing is at a premium.
