In Lord Salisburys administrations of 1885 and 1886 Lord Cranbrook was president of the council, and upon his retirement from public life concurrently with the resignation of the cabinet in 1892 he was raised to an earldom.

Gathorne Hardy, later Gathorne Gathorne-Hardy, 1st Earl of Cranbrook (1 October, 1814 - 3 October, 1906), was an (An Indo-European language belonging to the West Germanic branch; the official language of Britain and the United States and most of the Commonwealth countries) English (A person active in party politics) politician.
