1650 Nicholas Gatineau, a clerk in the Company of One Hundred Associates, an organization of fur traders, gives his family name to the river flowing into the Ottawa River, two miles from the present city of Hull (now Gatineau).
The name Odawa came to be associated with the great river by which they traveled.

Chiarelli said the $7 million a hotel fee could potentially generate per year would be more desirable funding for festivals and the tourism authority than the current $2 million or so from the city, which could "be taken off taxpayers' shoulders."
However, Dick Brown, executive director of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association, said only the province is allowed to legislate a hotel tax, which it has not been able to do because of the Taxpayer Protection Act.

 CBC Ottawa - Gow would extend O-Train to Gatineau
His comments come after the city of Ottawa announced it's buying a 13 km rail corridor from CP, which includes the steel rail bridge that spans the Ottawa River into Gatineau.
Harry Gow, president of the regional environmental council of the Outaouais, says the O-Train could run all the way to the Casino in Gatineau, with trains running every 15 minutes and stops along the way.
A well-known transit activist says Ottawa taxpayers should fund the expansion of light rail into Gatineau.
