He said the suspects admitted they were supporters of mayoral candidate Cayetano Agatep of Gattaran, lone opponent of opposition candidate Roman Nolasco.
“According to witnesses, Nolasco was sitting in front of the Gattaran Central Elementary School after he cast his vote when the two unidentified armed men on board the heavily tinted van stopped at the roadside some 15 meters away from Nolasco.

of Lasam was solved quickly with the confession of Vice Mayor Revelito Consiso of the same town, the police are still clueless on the unsuccessful ambush on Sunday of Mayor Ramon Nolasco of Gattaran, the Cagayan provincial police chief said on Monday.
Senior Supt. James Melad, Cagayan police director, said the investigators of Nolasco’s ambush are having a hard time because the mayor himself refused to give a statement to investigators that could lead the police to establish the motive of the crime.

Although Alvarado refused to consider Gattaran and other nearby towns as NPA turfs, he admitted that additional troops were also meant to address the insurgency threat in eastern Cagayan.

Resos said the suspects, whom he identified as Percival Dulnuan, Mariano Batton, Pastor Miguel and Peter Lumibao, seized Vitos on board a Royal Eagle bus in Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya last July 10.

Officers of the Philippine Army yesterday announced the arrest of two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels following an encounter in Gattaran, Cagayan the other day, reports reaching Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City said.
Reports reaching Lieutenant General Generoso Senga, commanding general of the Philippine Army, identified the arrested NPA rebels as Joseph Orpilla, alias "Ka Milo," and Filis Paggulayan, alias "Rocky."
