It was hard leaving Koro Island after being welcomed like family in the Nagaidamu village, but we had made plans to pick up Amy and drop Billy and Carla off in Gau, so all good things have to come to an end.
When we did our sevusevu (ceremoniously getting permission to visit that island/village) in Somosomo village in Gau, we were not looking forward to having grog with all the germ sharing, as Daniel who was mixing the kava was obviously sick.
We were all thoroughly disgusted, as Daniel would wipe his nose with the length of his arm and then wrap the kava in a cloth and wring out all the juices.

The sexual abuse of children has become a serious cause for concern for many people and the issue was constantly raised by people on the islands of Koro and Gau during FWCC’s recent community outreach visits.
From 11-15 February, two of FWCC’s staff travelled throughout the island of Gau raising awareness on the issue of violence against women and children and related laws, with their talks and workshops generating a lot of discussion.

There is a 110 feet opening in the barrier reef surrounding Gau, which can only be dived an hour and a half before and after the current changes.
We brought food to the Island, which the Fijians cooked for us Lovo style (buried in the ground over hot coals).
Due to uncooperative weather (E-6 has no protection from a surrounding island or a-toll) we were not able to visit E-6 this year.

Sawaieke Village, on the isolated island of Gau, is a special place.
The chief of Gau (the "Takalaigau") first invited NAI'A's passengers to visit ashore in 1994, and the village visit near the end of the charter has become one of the highlights, even for people who came to Fiji intent only on diving as much as humanly possible.
The reason: Fijians are the friendliest people on earth and a visit to Sawaieke is like being invited home by a new friend -- multiplied by the 150 or so villagers who normally turn out to welcome us.

The software was later used to identify a good wind site named Benau in Savusavu, Cakaudrove where a wind tower with wind monitoring equipments was installed as part of our 3 year monitoring.
Hence this new monitoring station was added to the existing 2 monitoring stations in Vadravadra, Gau Island and on Nacula Island in the Yasawa Group.
A preliminary wind survey was also carried out at Koro Island, Lomaiviti to determine the feasibility of the island and the Nacamaki village was identified as one of the potential sites for long term monitoring in the future.
