BOLT THROWER were formed in 1986 by Barry Thomson (guitar) and Gavin Ward (bass).
Inspired at that time by bands such as Sacrilege, Discharge, Slayer and Candlemass, the four piece went on to record two demos 'In Battle...' and 'Concession of Pain' - the latter was sent to John Peel which resulted in the band being offered a session.
At this time Gavin Ward decided to switch to guitar and then recruited Jo Bench on bass to complete the five-piece line-up.

One new addition to the band that is bringing some changes to the sounds of Bolt Thrower is ex-Benediction singer Dave Ingram, who replaced singer Karl Willets after the recording of 1998's _Mercenary_.
No doubt Ingram knew that him joining Bolt Thrower was a big deal and put a bit of pressure on him and how things would work out with fellow band members Gavin Ward and Baz Thomson (guitarists), drummer Martin Kearns and bassist Jo Bench.
He's been a fan of the band for years and was excited to be a part of this monstrous musical force.
