Paul Gascoigne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paul John Gascoigne (born in Gateshead, England on May 27, 1967) is an English football coach and former player, often referred to by his nickname Gazza.
After scoring a hat-trick in the final game of the season against Aberdeen, he was awarded the title of Scottish Player of the Season.
Problems with form, injury and discipline saw him omitted from the France 98 squad by coach Glenn Hoddle, Gascoigne was never to play for his country again.

 SI.com - Soccer - It's goodnight Gazza, and Paul is set to follow - Sunday October 10, 2004 11:19AM
LONDON, Oct 10 (Reuters) -- To thousands of England fans he will always be known as "Gazza," the troubled former international midfielder famed for the tears he shed after England bowed out of the 1990 World Cup in the semi-finals.
But Paul Gascoigne, the most-talented player of his generation but bedevilled by alcoholism in recent years, is determined to win back respect -- by changing his name and throwing off the shackles of his past.
Gascoigne, 36, won 57 England caps but for all his talent it was his off-field antics -- tales of drunken behaviour and wife-beating -- that made the headlines that he so desperately wants to forget.

But today the tears flowed on what was a day for Gazza that worked out perfectly: runs scored, victory achieved, and fittingly, dismissal just before the win was completed, thus — much like a star footballer substituted five minutes from time to allow him an individual ovation — giving Kirsten a proper farewell.
