GeForce 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As studies of the "NV1x" architecture progressed, it was determined that Geforce 2 GTS was extremely memory bandwidth constrained.
The GeForce 2's efficient design - 4 watts of power consumption versus the 8 watts for the GeForce 2 GTS and 16 required for the old GeForce 256 - enabled it to be easily adopted for the laptop market as the GeForce 2 Go.
The GeForce 2 MX's successor was the GeForce 4 MX.

The Geforce 2 GTS, with its 01.8 micron core, has been out for 3 months and since Nvidia is on a 6 month product cycle, they have to come out with something to tide them over till the "next big thing" = NV20.
The Geforce 2 MX is assigned to be the Geforce 2 GTS's little brother and it's about to get funky in the OEM business, competing against ATi.
Furthermore, the Geforce 2 MX, due to its faster clock and memory speed, has a theoretical peak fillrate of 700 Mtexels/s, compared with the Geforce 256's 480 Mtexels/s.

nVidia GeForce 2 MX400 - Hot Hardware   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Todate, with the success of the famed GeForce 2 GPU and the impending GeForce 3, it's fairly safe to say that nVidia has taken the lead of the video card market.
Using the new GeForce 2 MX chipsets, video card manufacturers should be able to provide an economical video card that is capable of running today's games as well as tomorrow's.
Unfortunately, I believe offering an additional 2 versions of the MX is going to seriously confuse the average user, so I've outlined the basic differences between the three cards.

The GeForce 2 Ultra is already close -- as you probably read in my GeForce 2 Ultra preview (if you didn't read the preview yet, read it now!).
The GeForce 2 Ultra is hot enough on its own -- bumping up the clock speed is a fun way to add another 20ºF or so the chip.
The default clock speed of the GeForce 2 Ultra is actually 250 MHz core / 458 MHz memory (according to the applet).

The GeForce 2 Ultra cards have been optimised well for today's games, and as for the GeForce 3 cards, well we got to wait a few more months to see the splendours of the InfiniteFX engine.
Fact is right now the investment on a GeForce 3 cannot be justified and as a result the potential of the GeForce 2 still remains.
Not to be outdone nVidia recently introduced the GeForce 2MX 200 and the Geforce 2 MX400 chipsets in order to secure their positioning the value gaming market with sheer brute force.

With the GeForce 2, each of the original GeForce's four pipelines was upgraded to include a second texture unit.
Note that at the highest resolution, the GeForce 2 is nearly tied with the Radeon.
The GeForce thoroughly trounced the Radeon in the Xmark performance test, so if you aren't running at a ultra high resolution, or aren't that picky, the GeForce is once again a better pick.

The Geforce 2 was ok (would have been excellent except hampered a bit by some problems accessing the menus causing crashes) in this test but again faded as we turned on FSAA.
My take on this is yes the Geforce 2 is fast in Quake 3 but then again it has the benefit of some driver releases, I believe it has had 3 releases prior to 522 Had I thought about it I would have benchmarked it with the original drivers to show the improvement possible.

GeForce 7800 GTX is the first video card in the GeForce 7 series, and it is based on a 0.11-micron TSMC manufacturing process.
In much the same way as the GeForce 6600 series, the pixel output engines (ROPs) are completely orthogonal, and despite there being 24 pixel pipelines, there are only 16 pixel output engines.
In some situations, the GeForce 7800 GTX will be up to and over two times the speed of GeForce 6800 Ultra.

To the contrary, the GeForce DDR was the undisputed market leader until the day the GeForce 2 hit store shelves, and it was no slouch.
Thanks to the newer.18-micron fabrication process used to produce the GeForce 2, chip clock speeds have jumped from 120MHz to 200MHz, while the memory clock has been bumped up from 150MHz to 166MHz.
Number-wise, the GeForce 2 is far out ahead of the pack in terms of both pixel and texel fill rates; at peak, it should be able to pump through more pixels at higher resolutions than anything else available right now.

The GeForce MX chipset used by the RIA2, is itself based on the Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS chipset, and is manufactured using the same 0.18 micron process.
What sets the two apart, of course, is that the GeForce 2 MX comes equipped with two functional pipelines for rendering textures, whereas the GTS comes with a full complement of 4.
On the other hand, the GeForce 2 MX does benefit from a few other bits of technology, Namely Digital Vibrance Control - which provides an extra degree of clarity, and luminosity to images - and Twinview, which allows two separate monitors to be connected to the same card.
