Welcome to AnandTech.com [ Article: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
The GeForce2 MX is officially supported by the Detonator 5.30 drivers.
As fill rate becomes more important the GeForce2 GTS and Voodoo5 5500 make themselves noticed at the top of the chart while the GeForce2 MX is the last of the good performers followed by the Viper II which isn't exactly performing as well as it should be.
Even then, the GeForce2 MX is still within 5 fps of the first place Voodoo5 5500 in the test which supports the statement that fast performance under UT can be obtained with much less than the absolute fastest video card.

 Review: Leadtek WinFast GeForce2 GTS
Apart from that, the real improvements in the GeForce2 are pretty much limited to some tweaks to the transform and lighting engine, and somewhat faster memory than even the GeForce DDR (Double Data Rate).
The GeForce2 is, indeed, substantially faster than the GeForce, even the DDR version, as we'll see in a moment.
People making GeForce2 cards got the new GeForce2 driver code to build their drivers on; that was all that needed to be ready for human consumption.

 X-bit labs - Articles - NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 and GeForce2 MX 200 Review
GeForce2 MX 400 with the slowest 166MHz memory performs similarly to the standard GeForce2 MX, because the higher core clock of GeForce2 MX 400 produces a notable effect only in low resolutions in 16bit color mode.
GeForce2 MX/MX 400 cost the same money, so it would be interesting to check what GeForce256 and GeForce256 DDR look like if compared with GeForce2 MX and GeForce2 MX 400.
Now that the graphics cards built on GeForce2 MX 400 with 200/200MHz frequencies are launched, the previously faster GeForce256 DDR products lose their performance advantages and will be soon swept away from the market (because of the more expensive DDR memory and the lack of GeForce256 chips).

nV News - GeForce2 Ultra Preview - Introduction
Based on a second generation transform and lighting engine and running at faster clock speeds than the GeForce256, the performance of the GeForce2 GTS continues to dominate the consumer based 3D graphics market.
The first is the availability of their Detonator 3 reference drivers which will provide increased performance for existing GeForce owners.
With faster processor and memory speeds on the TNT2 Ultra, the brute force method of gaining additional performance from the GeForce2 GTS is what the doctor has ordered for us this time around.

Review: ASUS AGP-V7700 Pure GeForce2 GTS graphics card
There is, at the moment, nothing on the market that can beat the GeForce2 for consumer PC 3D graphics, though 3dfx will pretty much match it with their upcoming, similarly priced Voodoo 5 cards.
I checked out Leadtek's plain-vanilla but excellent WinFast GeForce2 GTS board recently (read the review here), and now the ASUS AGP-V7700 Pure is available in Australia too.
I don't think this is likely to be a problem with anybody's GeForce2 offerings, since the NVIDIA drivers on which all of the other driver packages are based are quite highly evolved.

Of course, the GeForce2 GTS has all of the features of its predecessor, but the new GPU has been produced with a new.18-micorn process, which means less power consumption and heat.
The new GeForce2 GTS delivers four dual textured pixels per clock, or eight "texels" per clock.
The GeForce2 GTS has a faster core clock that runs at 200MHz and DDR memory that runs at 166MHz.

As we mentioned in an earlier GeForce2 MX article, the GeForce2 MX chipset is based on the more expensive and better performing GeForce2 GTS GPU.
Both the GeForce2 MX and the GeForce2 MX400 cards come in a couple of different configurations, either a 128bit path to SDR at 166Mhz or a 64bit path to DDR at 333Mhz, with the difference found in the core clock speed.
The GeForce2 MX cards run at a core speed 175Mhz while the GeForce2 MX400 cards run at 200Mhz, bringing the texels/second up from 700 million to 800 million, and the pixels/second up from 350 million to 400 million, thus increasing the fill rate.

 Hands-on: GeForce2 Pro and GeForce2 MX 400
The GeForce2 MX 400 is basically a reworking of the standard GeForce2 MX to match up some of its paper specs with the upcoming $150 Kyro II, which Hercules will produce as the 3D Prophet 4500.
The GeForce2 MX 200 uses only 64-bit SDR memory, resulting in only half of the memory bandwidth of the GeForce2 MX and cutting costs where it most affects 3D performance.
The other main marketing concern for Nvidia is the upcoming Kyro II, which the GeForce2 MX 400 now matches or outpasses in the specs that used to primarily govern performance: graphics memory amount and core clock speed.

 X-bit labs - Articles - Gigabyte GV-GF1280RT (GeForce2 MX 400 64MB) Review
Until recently all the chips from GeForce2 family were positioned as follows: GeForce2 MX was intended for Low-End graphics cards; GeForce2, GeForce2 Pro and GeForce2 Ultra dominated among Mainstream and High-End solutions.
GeForce2 MX 200 and GeForce2 MX 100 based graphics cards have lower working frequencies and cut-down memory bus bandwidth.
Most NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 based graphics cards are equipped with heatsinks only stuck to the chip and in fact, the absence of a fan doesn't tell on their performance.
