Gediminas monte sur le trône de Lituanie après la mort de son frère Vitenis.

Vagnorius accused Conservative Party Chairman and Lithuania’s Seimas (Parliament) Chairman, Vytautas Landsbergis, of forming conditions, which caused a conflict between the Cabinet and the President.
Vagnorius said he did not want confrontation inside the party; therefore, he decided to resign from the Homeland Union Board Chairman’s post.
After an unexpected resignation of the Party’s Board Chairman Gediminas Vagnorius together with the party’s board, he was replaced by Prime Minister Rolandas Paksas, who earlier had replaced Vagnorius in the post of Premier as well.

In an effort to reduce the size and recalcitrance of a government bureaucracy allegedly impeding reform, in April 1992 then-Prime Minister Vagnorius unsuccessfully attempted to enact a measure permitting the dismissal of former Communist party members and of those unwilling to enforce government decrees.
Two deputies and a minister unsuccessfully tendered resignations in support of Vagnorius, but the rest of the cabinet wrote a letter to Chairman Landsbergis complaining of Vagnorius' confrontational governing style.
Vagnorius unsuccessfully submitted his resignation in May. When a referendum in May to establish a permanent French-style office of president failed, Landsbergis also threatened to resign.

Vagnorius, "importer" of Williams, is making efforts to save himself from critique by alleging that during his Premiership the conditions, issued by Americans had been much more favorable to Lithuania as they are now, hence Paksas is to blame.

A feud between Adamkus and Vagnorius culminated in the latter's resignation in April 1999; he was succeeded in May by another conservative, Vilnius mayor Rolandas Paksas (1956–).

Lithuania has never set a date for closing the two reactors but has an obligation to not re-channel them after they wear down, meaning they should be shut down in 2005 and 2010 respectively.
A study by the Swedish firm Grufman Reje, in conjunction with a local energy institute, found the closure of the reactors would cost Lithuania, the most nuclear energy dependent country in the world, $3.3-3.9 billion in lost opportunities.
Lithuania has said it wants an international independent panel to advise on the shutdown of the plant, and that the decision should be an issue of safety, not politics.

Alperavicius said Prime Minister Gediminas Vagnorius' call for action was clearly timed for this week's commemoration of the Gaon, the renowned commentator on the Talmud and the Torah.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center has called for an international boycott of the commemoration, saying that participation would be seen as support for a government that has not yet atoned for the destruction of Lithuanian Jewry.
Several certificates of exoneration also were revoked, but authorities claimed investigation of other war-crime suspects was hindered by the absence of authentic documentation and witnesses.
