381st BGMA: Through the Cloud Bombing, GEE-H & OBOE explained
GEE was highly effective and accurate as an aid to navigation, but it lacked the pin-point accuracy needed for a bombing attack on a selected target.
GEE H bombing through the clouds was highly accurate and played an important part in depriving Hitler of his much-needed reserves of oil and gasoline.
GEE was the first major addition to navigational procedures since the invention of the chronometer by John Harrison in 1764.

Acceleration due to gravity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The acceleration due to gravity denoted g (also gee, g-force or g-load) is a non-SI unit of acceleration defined as exactly 9.80665 m/s², which is approximately equal to the acceleration due to gravity on the Earth's surface at sea level.
It is a normalized force vector since dividing the resultant force vector applied to a body by the body's weight (magnitude at sea level) cancels the mass, resulting in a "fractional-g" -magnitude vector, e.g.
Because the force due to gravitational attraction between two bodies (the Earth and the object being weighed) varies inversely with the square of the distance between them, objects at the equator experience a weaker gravitational pull than objects at the poles.

g (also gee, g-force or g-load) is a unit of acceleration defined as exactly 9.806 65 m/s², approximately equal to the acceleration due to gravity on the Earth's surface.
The net downward force on the body is therefore offset by a centrifugal force that acts upwards, reducing its weight.
Gee is also the name for a WWII radio navigation device built and implemented by the RAF for use in night bombing.

g (also gee, g-force or g-load) is a non-SI unit of acceleration defined as exactly 9.806 65 m/s², which is approximately equal to the acceleration due to gravity on the Earth's surface.
The normal measured g also includes the centrifugal force effects due to the rotation of the Earth.
Resistance to "negative" or upward gees, which drive blood to the head, is much less; typically in the 2-3 g (20 to 30 m/s²) range the vision goes red, probably due to capillaries in the eyes bursting under the increased blood pressure.

 Philosophy Forum -> Freefall acceleration
By examining the equality of inertial and gravitational mass, Einstein postulated that gravity is not as force, as was believed by Newton (and the rest of the world), but rather an effect from the geometry of spacetime, and the curvature of spacetime in the vicinity of a massive body.
Einstein formulated GR by assuming that the force you feel standing still in a gravitational field, say at the surface of the Earth, is indistinguishable from the force you would feel if you were accelerating, say in a rocket steadily increasing its speed at one gee.
Assuming that a one-gee gravitational force and a one-gee inertial force are equal may be a true representation of reality, but is different from explaining how the forces originate.

 G force Summary
This gravitational force is strictly proportional to the object's mass and the gravitational field, as in the formula F = m · g, where g is the gravitational field at any given location, and g exerts a force F on the mass m.
In practice, the term "G force" measures the magnitude of force due to nongravitational accelerations and represents the force of acceleration that pull on an object when it changes its plane of motion.
Although G forces and the force of gravity are not synonymous, the force of gravity on Earth is used as a baseline for measuring G forces from acceleration or deceleration.

The force will be near zero when the steel projectile is outside the coil.
The force should increase proportionally to the amount of steel inside the coil.
It tends to pull the steel to the midpoint of the coil length; therefore we'll call the force positive as the steel is introduced to the magnetic field, and negative after the steel goes past the midpoint.

Comparison of the force characteristics vs displacement, and vs current, for voice coil devices and solenoid actuators shows the difference between these devices.
The flat force characteristic exhibited by the voice coil motor lends this to applications requiring precise control of force or position such as control valves, or lens and mirror positioning systems, whereas the sharp increase in developed force as the pole faces approach one another in a solenoid device makes these difficult to control.
In a solenoid, a spring is typically required to produce force in the return direction, this spring force subtracts from the magnetic force developed so reducing force and speed in the energized direction.
