The GeekPort is located on the ISA bus and can be accessed by the CPU, a PCI busmaster card, or an ISA busmaster card.
The shell of the connector is connected to chassis ground for shielding.
The power connections have specifically been grouped to the center of the connector to help prevent the accidental shorting between the power pins of the GeekPort to external cables and devices.

Be Inc. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Be aimed to create a modern computer operating system written in C++ on a proprietary hardware platform.
In 1995, the BeBox personal computer was released by Be, with its distinctive strips of lights up the front that indicated the load of each CPU, and the combined analogue/digital, 37-pin GeekPort has made it a highly desirable item for collectors.
In addition to BeOS and BeBox, Be also produced BeIA, an ill-fated OS for internet appliances.

The Device Kit: The GeekPort and its Classes   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The GeekPort is a piece of hardware that communicates with external devices.
The signals and data that these classes read and write appear at the GeekPort connector, a 37-pin female connector that you'll find at the back of every BeBox.
In addition to the pins that correspond to the analog and data paths, the GeekPort provides power and ground pins.

The BeBox hardware will always be fully supported by BeOS, and it will allow you to exploit all the features and programs that are delivered with the OS since they are an integrated system.
For example, there will be an API for the Geekport that will enable project-builders concentrate on designing the system instead of making their own drivers.

Even when you have "enough" channels (kind of like having "enough" money, I guess), additional CPUs can be used for realtime effects, which are another thing that's really lacking on non-DSPed audio workstations today.
I've been thinking the GeekPort would make a right nice place to hang some real analogish controls and guages, for people not 100% happy with doing audio workstation stuff on-screen all the time.
Of course, MIDI automation would also work, what with the four possible built-in MIDIs, and plenty of other MIDI devices that hook into normal PClone orifices, needing only software to make them tick.
