		Geert Hofstede is an influential Dutch expert on the interactions between national cultures and organizational cultures, and is an author of several books including Culture's Consequences (2nd, fully revised edition, 2001) and Cultures and Organizations, Software of the Mind (2nd, revised edition 2005, with Gert Jan Hofstede).
		Hofstede demonstrated that there are national and regional cultural groupings that affect the behaviour of organizations, and that are very persistent across time.
		Geert Hofstede analyzed a large data base of employee values scores collected by IBM between 1967 and 1973 covering more than 70 countries, from which he first used the 40 largest only, and afterwards extended the analysis to 50 countries and 3 regions.

		Although Hofstede must be given his due as a pioneer in this field, subsequent research attempting to validate this analysis has yielded mixed results, and by and large Hofstede's IBM data has been superseded by the more extensive World Values Survey data.
		Readers with a more scientific bent who want to examine in detail the evidence that underlies (or does not underlie) the arguments that Hofstede makes are directed to the companion volume, "Culture's Consequences." Nevertheless, it is a fast and easy read, presumably one of its attractions in management courses.

		This was not the case, and the website led to a mysterious "International Business Center" whose operators used my name to promote themselves, suggesting a non-existing relationship.
		More important, they produced a series of "Hofstede Resource Pages" supplying numerical information about country scores on my five dimensions of national cultures.
		With the help of colleagues and a lawyer, I found out that the domain name www.geert-hofstede.com was created in March 2003 by a company called Sigma Two, behind which there was one Stephen Taylor of Apple Valley, California.
