		Of the ten provinces formed in 1995 during the reform of Armenia's territorial administrative division, Gegharkunik is the largest.
		Gegharkunik province is known for its severe winters, with an average temperature of minus 20-25 centigrade, and mild summer seasons with an average temperature of 20-25 centigrade.
		22 percent of Armenia's arable lands and 33 percent of its pasture lands are in Gegharkunik.

		The NHDS in Gegharkunik comprised of 500 households from 5 towns and 22 rural communities, thus including around 25 percent of the total urban and rural population in the marz.
		It is well known that Gegharkunik has taken in a large number of refugees, who had a huge impact on the overall social conditions in the marz by increasing the number of vulnerable population.
		Based on screening conducted jointly by Gegharkunik marz government and Ministry of Defense, 18 apartments were allocated to these families, and based on joint screening of Geghrakunik marz government and Karagyozyan Foundation another 40 apartments were allocated.

		The epicenter was roughly 24 kilometres east of the district centre, Vartenis.
		In order to lighten this burden, the Gegharkunik ADP undertook a quick response project, providing warm GIK clothing to 1,000 people affected by the disaster, with a further 2,000 people being targeted to receive assistance in the coming week.

		Gavar, February 10, Armenpress; A massive snow storm coupled with unprecedented wind hit the province of Gegharkunik early Thursday, cutting power to hundreds of households and disrupting land traffic across the region.
		The storm barreled in over the entire province with wind gales of up to 30 meters per second, the regional meteorological service said.
		Local authorities said they were working to clean at least strategic roads in the province, saying also community roads remained closed because of the raving storm and lack of snow-ploughs.
