A Summary of the Current Demography of Guam's Native Lizards
Gehyra mutilata is still locally common but has declined over large areas of the island.
Gehyra oceanica disappeared from Guam during the time when the brown Treesnake was irrupting.
Thus, the snake's apparent elimination of Gehyra oceanica may have offset the direct predation of the snake on Hemidactylus.

Y1 - 1987/01/01 VL - 35 IS - 6 SP - 587 EP - 596 UR - http://www.publish.csiro.au/paper/ZO9870587 AB - Dispersal and colonisation were studied in two species of Gehyra to determine whether they are likely to have the low levels of gene flow that are necessary for some modes of chromosomal speciation.
The results suggest that dispersal within populations of Gehyra may not be as restricted as previously thought.
If moderate gene flow is a common feature of populations of Gehyra, then speciation via single, severely underdominant chromosome changes is unlikely.

Hello Gina, The is a great paper about the genus Gehyra by William N. Beckon "The Giant Pacific Geckos of the Genus Gehyra: Morphological Variation, Distribution, and Biogeography" that was in May 1992 Copeia.
The paper mainly deals with G. vorax and G. oceanica and discusses keying the different variations using snout to vent length vs. toe size among other features.
At the National Reptile Breeders Expo last month I looked at several vendors who thought they were selling G. vorax but according to Beckon's key they were oceanica or something else.

Understanding how organisms move through landscapes is important for predicting the effects of landscape structure on the population dynamics and spatial distribution of organisms.
Despite the accepted importance, the ability to orientate when moving is a poorly studied phenomenon.
In this study we report on a translocation experiment in which we used fluorescent powder to study the ability of the arboreal gecko Gehyra variegata to orientate successfully between trees.
