Turner was re-elected in the riding of Ottawa-Carleton in the general election of 1968, and appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada in July 1968.
Turner was elected as Member of Parliament for the riding of Vancouver Quadra (British Columbia), and was sworn in as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons on September 17, 1984.
Turner was re-elected as the Member for Vancouver Quadra in the general election of November 21, 1988, and sworn in as Leader of the Opposition on December 6, 1988.

The Right Honourable John Napier Turner (born June 7, 1929) was the seventeenth Prime Minister of Canada from June 30, 1984 to September 17, 1984.
He practiced law in Toronto, Ontario and was elected as a member of Parliament in 1962 and served in the Cabinet until his leaving political life in 1976.
On the resignation of Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in 1984, John Turner re-entered politics and was elected leader of his party and Prime Minister of Canada.
