 ALA ALSC announces new children's book award named for Theodor Seuss Geisel
The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award will be presented annually to both the author(s) and illustrator(s) of an outstanding book for beginning readers published in the past calendar year.
ALSC is the world's largest organization dedicated to the support and enhancement of service to children in all types of libraries.  ALSC sets the agenda for the future of children's library service and acts as a children's advocate urging policy makers to support library service for children.
The first winner[s] of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award will be announced during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in January 2006.

 Geisel Library - Joseph H. Geisel
Joseph H. Geisel, who left his estate of $450,000 to the College at his death in 1964, capped his career with a commitment to underwrite construction of a new Saint Anselm library in memory of his parents.
Geisel was also president of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, served on the municipal Board of Assessors and Board of Alderman, was postmaster for 13 years, and was past state chairman of New Hampshire Catholic Charities.
Geisel, who died March 26, 1955, at age 81, Joe Geisel, born a Saint Valentine's Day baby, had set his heart on New Hampshire, Manchester, and, in particular, Saint Anselm College.

Seuss was his middle name and he put Dr. in front of it because his father had always wanted him to be a doctor.

At 1 p.m., students gathered in front of Geisel Library to watch the first-annual Triton Junkyard Derby, inspired by the television show “Junkyard Wars” and co-sponsored by the UCSD Alumni Association and the Triton Engineering Student Council.
Split among Library Walk and Sun God Lawn, different campus organizations and off-campus groups provided information and entertainment to students, while more than a dozen different entertainers offered free music on a daytime stage set up in Price Center.
“My main concern was whether the statue was damaged, and it appears no damage was done,” said Stuart Art Collection Director Mary Beebe, explaining that she left the decision about the addition to Sun God organizers.
