		Gelibolu is well-connected to other urban centres by road.
		Central in Gelibolu is a Byzantine fortress, of which a stone tower is all that remains.
		The founding time of Gelibolu is not known, but the town's history goes back at least to the 5th century BCE, then as an ally of Athens against Persia.

		Gelibolu, also known as Gallipoli, lies on the northern side of the narrow Strait of the Dardanelles that connects the Sea of Marmara with the Aegean Sea.
		The Gelibolu National Park was established to honor the 251,000 Turkish soldiers and 252,000 allied soldiers (mostly Australians and New Zealanders), who needlessly gave their lives on the Gelibolu Peninsula for what many claim to have been one of the Allies biggest blunders of the First World War.
		For those who have personal reasons for including Gallipoli in their visit to Turkey, it is advisable to avoid the week that includes April 25, the date on which the anniversary of the Gallipoli landings is celebrated.
