Gemini 11 was the first US manned spacecraft that made the first steering re-entry controlled entirely by computer.
Gemini mission accomplishments included the first U.S. two-man spaceflight, spacewalk by an American, use of fuel cells for electric power, spacecraft rendezvous, docking with another spacecraft, emergency landing of a U.S. spacecraft and use of an Agena target vehicle's propulsion system for rendezvous operations.
The Gemini program was managed by the Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas, under the supervision of the Office of Manned Spaceflight at NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. Dr. George E. Mueller acted as program director up until Gemini 5, when William C. Schneider took over the responsibility.

 Manned Space Chronology: Gemini 10
This was called a "stand-up" spacewalk, and although the astronaut never ventured outside the Gemini 10 spacecraft, he was able to carry out a number of experiments, visual observations and photography.
Unlike the first spacewalk of the mission, astronaut Collins remained tethered to the Gemini 10 spacecraft by a life support umbilical line, and exited the hatch six minutes after it was opened.
The use of Gemini 10 spacecraft thrusters for this purpose caused the fuel to reach low and unsafe levels, and the spacewalk was cut short.

On The Shoulders of Titans - Ch11-3
Since the trouble remained a mystery, IBM modified the Gemini V computer with a manual switch that allowed areas that might have caused the problem to be bypassed.
Another requirement for the first rendezvous flight that Cooper and Conrad rehearsed was a simultaneous launch countdown, which involved their Titan II and spacecraft on pad 19 and an Atlas-Agena on pad 14, to give the launch crew and flight controllers some experience in launching two vehicles at precise times.
On 22 July, the Gemini V crew went through the motions of a double launch, including five holds - for propellant tanking, a faulty command panel switch, spacecraft problems, erratic range sequencer performance, and spurious pulses received at Lockheed's ground stations.

The primary mission objective (achieved) was to rendezvous and dock with an Agena target vehicle.
In fact, Gemini 10 was to rendezvous with two Agena targets: Agena 10 which had been placed in orbit shortly before the Gemini 10 launch, and the Agena target left in orbit by Gemini 8.
The docking practice flight objective was not achieved because too much fuel had been expended during the rendezvous with the Agena.
