  GameSpy: Gen Con Expands Videogame Focus
Gen Con, LLC is planning to expand the amount of videogame content it has in its shows and is changing its west coast location to a place that will have more space and be better suited for videogame industry people to attend.
Gen Con in Indianapolis will be expanded by an additional 43,000 square feet in 2007.
Gen Con has been around for 39 years and is attended by as many as 100,000 people annually.

The reason I want to explain what went wrong is so that you, the gaming community, can have some confidence that the guy in charge at Gen Con has a clue as to what went wrong so that you'll have some confidence that it'll get fixed (which is our number one priority for next year).
Gen Con is very special and moving it was a scary thing.
In general people were really happy with the move to Indianapolis (this was as close to a unanimous vote as one could hope for), and promised to come back next year and heckle their friends who didn't come this year.

Gen Con convention organizers have announced that the organization has canceled its Gen Con So Cal show, which was to take place this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center and include unspecified video game-related content.
The recently announced Entertainment for All Expo from IDG, also targeting the LA Convention Center from October 18-20 of 2007, and including a number of former E3 staff as organizers, is believed to be one of the major reasons behind Gen Con's shift of focus.

This is one of the booths at the show that sells replica swords, so Gen Con's not just about gaming, it's about things you can hang on your walls that might kill you if they fall off during an earthquake.
This was his first Gen Con, and he was an artist guest of honor, so I knew I'd run into him eventually, and I did.

As Milwaukee convention officials had feared, Gen Con has decided to move its annual August gathering of gamers to Indianapolis in 2003, citing inadequate hotel space in Milwaukee, a convention official said Friday.
In an effort to retain Gen Con and its 20,000-plus attendees beyond the current contract through August 2002, a delegation flew to Seattle last month to present a new offer to Wizards of the Coast, the company that stages Gen Con.
Wizards of the Coast officials familiar with the Gen Con decision could not be reached for comment.
