Barry was enchanted by this, and from 1957 through 1961 he starred on the popular series Bat Masterson.
Barry's next series, Name of the Game, was another success (it ran from 1969 through 1971), and wasn't quite as grueling in that the actor only had to appear in one out of every three episodes.
In 1993, Gene Barry was back for an unfortunately brief revival of Burke's Law, which was adjusted for the actor's age by having him avoid the action and concentrate on the detecting; even so, viewers had a great deal of difficulty believing that Burke (or Barry) was as old as he claimed to be.

Barry continued his run of hit shows with "The Name of the Game" (NBC, 1968-71), which told the exploits of three men working for "Crime" magazine, with Barry in typical form as the tabloid's publisher dealing stylishly with high-level intrigue.
Barry's subsequent TV work was mostly in TV-movies ("Ransom for Alice!" 1977, "A Cry for Love" 1980), and miniseries ("Aspen" 1977), but for a time he took to movie producing.
Barry stayed with the show for a long time and later recreated his Bat Masterson for the two-part TV-movie "Luck of the Draw: The Gambler Returns" (1991).

The Name of the Game (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Appealing 22-year-old newcomer Susan Saint James was arguably the series' true star, however, since she played an editorial assistant who appeared in practically every episode, regardless of which leading actor helmed it, and was the common thread that made the show feel more or less like a series instead of an anthology.
Franciosa, Barry, and Stack crossed over into each others' shows on a frustratingly limited basis, and the three leads never appeared on screen at the same time.
The series was based on a TV-movie that was incredibly heavily publicized by the network at the time as the first one ever, but that honor technically belongs to a much earlier TV-movie pilot of 77 Sunset Strip.
