More specifically, Saks is the man who directed the Broadway version of Neil Simon's "Biloxi Blues," the second New Court production of the summer opening next Thursday, July 6th.
Like Saks, Burton appreciates the brilliance of Simon, who with "Broadway Bound" earned a place in theatrical history as the most prolific playwright of the 20th century.
Burton, oddly enough, was in one of the Neil Simon plays Saks did not direct, "The Sunshine Boys." But this speaks to a shared love of what Simon can bring to audiences, insight and understanding with laughter.

Trained at the Dramatic Workshop of the New School for Social Research (which was a precursor of the Actors Studio), he was a co-founder of an acting troupe in the late 1940s.
Saks made his stage debut with the company in "Juno and the Paycock" in 1947 and he went on to spend the next decade and a half in a number of plays and one musical, "South Pacific".
Additionally, Saks was the director of Simon's farcical "Rumors" (1988) and the playwright's Pulitzer-winning "Lost in Yonkers" (1991).

Set in Brooklyn, New York in 1937, it is the first play in what is known as Simon's "Eugene Trilogy." His protagonist is Eugene Jerome, a Jewish teenager who experiences puberty, sexual awakening, and a search for identity as he tries to deal with his family, including his older brother Stanley, whom he idolizes.
After seven previews, the Broadway production, directed by Gene Saks, opened on March 27, 1983 at the Alvin Theatre (renamed after Simon three months later), where it ran for nearly two years before transferring to the 46th Street Theatre.
Simon and Saks reteamed for the 1986 film version, which starred Silverman, Margulies, Blythe Danner, Judith Ivey, Bob Dishy, and Fyvush Finkel.
