txt001jfo: Gene therapy: potential applications in clinical transplantation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Until the precise involvement of different genes (their regulation and expression) in the disease process and the proteins they encode is established, gene therapy is most likely to be clinically effective as a preventative or curative treatment for single-gene defects such as ADA deficiency, familial hypercholesterolaemia (Ref. 2) and cystic fibrosis.
Gene therapy can be subdivided into somatic cell gene transfer (that is transfer to normal diploid cells), which is the focus of this review, and germline gene transfer (transfer to haploid sperm or egg cells of the reproductive system).
Gene transfer to bone marrow could also be used to introduce genes that encode immunoregulatory molecules (such as cytokines) that would modulate the immune function in haematopoietic cells (Ref. 43).

French/Russian Natalie Wood is decidedly non-ethnic as Marjorie Morgenstern, the starry-eyed Jewish college girl who falls in love with summer resort small-timer Gene Kelly (who never quite sells himself as a show-biz dreamer with limited talent).
Gene Kelly blowing his stack at a trio of Broadway producers is so off-the-wall and over-the-top it's worth the price of admission by itself; all that's missing is his stepping out of character at the end of the scene and exclaiming "ACTING!" a la SNL's classic "Master Thespian" gag.
While Wood has always had a sort of 'wholesome' quality in her persona and appearance, to me there was a slightly exotic cast in her face (most evident in her large, expressive, enchantress-like dark eyes) which made her acceptable in more exotic-ethnic parts.

I was kinda going with the second theory myself since it seems either Gene Wood or Johnny Olson was Goodson's goto man when they needed announcing in the early to mid 80's until Johnny's passing.
so probably Gene Wood didn't announce SP during the first few months was b/c those two shows aired back to back and SP came on at Noon in most markets at that time as well.
Gene also probably came to "SP" when he was available because Bert Convy and him worked well together on the 1974-78 version of "Tattletales."
