The eight- seat Hotspur was inspired by the successful use of the DFS 230 by the Germans in May 1940.
The gliding performance of the Hotspur was not entirely satisfactory, and toghether with the development of larger gliders this prevented the type from entering combat service.
With a shortened wingspan, the Hotspur became the standard glider trainer.

The Hurricane Mark IV was the first rocket-armed aircraft to be used in action by the Western Allies, and the rocket armament gave it a tremendous punch, being generally more effective than the light bombs carried by earlier Hurribombers.
It appears that CAM ship Hurricat launches were generally done only as a last resort, not only because of the risk to the pilot but because the bright flare of the rocket catapult attracted unwanted attention.
Although the Hotspur's performance was better than that of the Defiant, and in fact was not that much inferior to that of the Hurricane, with a top speed of well over 480 KPH (300 MPH), by this time Hurricane production was an absolute priority.

Of note though aircraft #0753 "3-A-203" also carried the same kill mark as both aircraft launched an exocet during this attack.#0753 also carried a kill silhoutte of cargo ship after the sinking of the containership " Atlantic conveyor" both kill marks were in yellow,port side on nose.
Both aircraft were in a glossy dark blue/grey upper with white undersides.

Later on we built a scissors lifter (using a screwed rod and a starter motor) and used an aircraft tug to move them which was slightly less stressful.
The idea was to build a troop carrying glider using components of the Hotspur training glider, it carried 15 troops, they only built one, towed it with a Whitley and it crashed..

Footnote: Many years ago a workmate told me about some remains of an aircraft on his dads farm,he invited me over to see them and when I got there sure enough were portions of Horsa fuselages used as chicken runs !
I gathered together three bags of metal fittings and other parts such as air bottles etc,years later these same parts went into making up a Horsa for preservation,that Horsa glider now rests in a museum dedicated to the Glider pilots regiment.
Yes George that one is on my list to build,I have built the Waco and Hotspur training glider also.The Frog kit must be very rare but I have the necessary plans so no problem.
