General Magic was a company co-founded by Bill Atkinson, Andy Hertzfeld and Marc Porat that developed new kind of handheld communications device they called a "personal intelligent communicator", which was a PDA precursor that stressed communications.
General Magic was nearly clairvoyant in their ability to predict the way people would use technology (predicting things such as ubiquitous email, everyone owning/using cell phones and devices, etc).
General Magic was the first company to employ a large number of linguists to fine tune the human interaction and make it seem very real.

General Magic apparently saw Telescript only as a part of Magic Cap, and so it didn't get as much exposure at it probably deserved for what was (and still is) a revolutionary paradigm.
But what surprises me about this announcement is that General Magic's new chief asset is not this "network service", but an implementation of their agent technology in Java called Odyssey.

I was pretty sure that Magic had failed, but I had a lot more to learn still.

I did it for a year or so 4 years back so i have a general grasp of some sleights etc. I was just wondering has anyone got any advice for me? i have a few tricks i picked up over time but i was wondering what are the best books and dvds to buy.
I think it's important to have a sound grasp of the fundamental principles of magic as you'll encounter these same principles being used again and again.
I have found that Videos/DVD's are great to learn magic from- mainly because you get to see what the effect looks like when it's performed properly and the moves and misdirection are much easier to follow than if you are holding a prop with one hand and trying to read a book with another!
