Holden sold the Nissan Pulsar as a Holden Astra (not to be confused with the Opel-sourced model of the same name) and used the 3.0 litre 6 cylinder engine from Nissan's Skyline in the VL Commodore (1986-1988).

The Rodeo had a 1900cc motor, 4 speed gearbox, manual freewheeling hubs, and independent front suspension, so was pleasant to drive on and off road.
The vehicle itself was good but, unfortunately the V6 motor had an annoying timing chain "thrash." This motor originally of Buick design was, I think, intended as a stationary motor for irrigation and the like in the USA.

Prototype No. 1 is the only survivor of three test Holden sedans built by hand in 1946 by American and Australian engineers at the General Motors workshop in Detroit.
