On this album Genesis first began to indulge the nostalgia that was to become one of their hallmarks - nostalgia for an Old England that never existed.
The album reached Number 3 in the autumn of 1973, and 'I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)', shorn of Banks's lawnmower synthesisers, became a quirky first hit single for Genesis; it reached Number 21 and was danced to by Pan's People on 'Top Of The Pops'.
