The most known is of course the English band, who had a period of symphonic fantasy led by Peter Gabriel mostly but later also by former Brand-X drummer, Phil Collins who in the end turned the band into a pop orientated band.
Hardly ever mentioned is the Colombian band Genesis, although they originated out of a relatively more known garage band which had certain adventurous moves and evolutions, Los Speakers.
This second album is an acoustic rock album which is attractively arranged -which is great for repeated listens-, with a sweet and charming softness and with harmony backing vocals.

Colombian Chucho Merchan plays delightful double bass, Caroline Dale takes care of most keyboard parts with her cello, second guitar is provided by Neill MacColl and the lot is backed by drummer/percussionist Nic France.
Thus terming this band as a progressive rock outfit would be stretching a description of their style, too much.
Their style is mostly psychedelic space rock, but this is not a rule that they stick to rigidly, and there are plenty of other influences at work, too.

This collection, featuring three different bands, is fair, but not as good as a couple of compilations that appeared several years ago.
It's been four years since their debut, and the U.S. based band finally return for a second outing, delving deep into dub and beyond, but giving it a highly international flavor whose roots are as much in the Middle East and West Africa as in the Caribbean.
However, while the band are all excellent musicians, the disc ultimately lacks that oomph or punch to push it in your face - which is what it needs.

I'm not saying that people in the 70s were less interested in their rock idols than they are now, but the media is now so pervasive that being a celebrity now means that you are almost constantly on show.
I saw another band yesterday at a record store in Hollywood for their new album release (More Adventurous), and while the set was short, it was my first time seeing Rilo Kiley perform together as a band.
