A bit of Genie history: after years of terrible ratings, the CBC opted out of the Genies three years ago.
It may be true that the awards show as a species is doomed.
However, there was something a little weird about the fact that the home audience knew the awards had already been given out but weren't told until much later in the broadcast who had won — as if the suspense could be artificially duplicated an hour or two after the envelope was opened.
