 Off the Kuff: Real Men of Genius
i want the real men of genius that i heard on the radio this morning (on 89x), about egg nog but none of the websites have it...where is it!
OK, I admit it: I have a soft spot for those Budweiser "Real Men of Genius" ads which have migrated recently from radio to TV.
Apparently, there were a lot more of these spots on the radio than I knew (this is the first negative side effect I can think of for my policy of changing stations whenever the music stops) - this page has downloadable MP3s of all of them.

Dear Word Detective: On a recent radio talk show, the theme of which was the latest corporate scandal, the guest guru used the expression "cooking the books." To divert my attention from my plummeting mutual funds, I thought I would ask you to explain the origin of this idiom.-- Russ Greatens, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Dear Word Detective: I recently heard a radio talk-show host refer to a certain former U.S. President as a "sybarite." I looked up the word, but my dictionary just defines it as "a person devoted to luxury and pleasure," and doesn't explain where it came from.
Dear Word Detective: I am mystified by the word "perjorative." I know I've heard this word before, but I have looked it up in two different dictionaries and it's not listed.

 AlZaid.Net's Store :: Disneymania, Vol. 3
The genius of the Disneymania series -- if genius isn't too strong a word to use in association with tween-targeted music -- is the levels on which it works.
In addition to Disney's own popster parade (Jump5, The Cheetah Girls, Christy Carlson Romano), mainstream hit makers like Jessica Simpson and Clay Aiken don their mouse ears for 3 -- the charm in a series that will leave tweens of all stripes wishing upon a star for a 4 that's as bright and shiny.
And if you're 18 (or older), it's lighthearted kitsch; a lively, listenable, and sometimes surprising excuse to revisit songs you loved as a kid.

 The Genius of Beef - 50 Cent stirs up trouble on The Massacre. By Jody Rosen
Plenty of rappers dis their rivals, but who besides 50 would appear live on the radio to denounce a member of his own posse while two of their duets were perched in the top 10?
Supposedly, the rappers' beef had roots in a mugging back in Queens, but in songs like " Back Down," 50 Cent's motives seemed careerist: He was clambering into the spotlight on the back of a high-profile rapper, casting himself as a hard-core alternative to Ja Rule's bubblegum rap.
New stars may rise on the strength of beats and rhymes, but a rapper's longevity depends upon his or her ability to adapt to fashion and keep themselves in the news.
