Genndy Tartakovsky (Russian: Геннадий Тартаковский (Gyennadiy Tartakovskiy), born January 17, 1970) is a leading modern animator.
Tartakovsky is most well known for creating, writing, and directing the animated series Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack.
Genndy recently helped create and directed animation on a new series for cartoon network's Adult Swim.

Sony Pictures has announced that Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky will write and direct their Astro Boy adaptation.
Originally set to be a live action adaptation, production was halted in 2000 due to similarities with Steven Spielberg's A.I. The film was then re-envisioned as an all-CGI feature, to be directed by Eric Leighton (director of Dinosaur).
However, the film is now being produced as a mixture of live-action, animatronics and CGI, with Tartakovsky replacing Leighton and Don Murphy (Angryfilms), Lisa Henson (Jim Henson) and Kristine Belson (Jim Henson) producing.

Anyway, Tartakovsky can't "kill" Astro Boy any more than director Konaka and Sony already have with that damned 2003 remake.
I like Tartakovsky's shows, but whenever a filmmaker/animator that I like does an adaption of a story I like, it invariably turns out to be crap (there's exceptions like Naked Lunch and Metropolis, but those have almost nothing in common with their source material).
