Genshiken - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Genshiken was written by Kio Shimoku and ran in Kodansha's monthly manga anthology Afternoon from June 2002 to June 2006, totaling some 50 chapters.
Genshiken has a tongue-in-cheek manner in which it portrays otaku fandom, which it both subtly criticizes and admires.
She follows Kohsaka into Genshiken, and is eventually flmailed by the first Genshiken chairman into joining the club.

 Animefringe: September 2005 - Reviews - Genshiken Vol. 1
Genshiken revolves around the Genshiken club at school, or the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture!
Genshiken will have you rolling on the ground, especially since basically all of the people watching this show like anime, and they can relate to what's going on and understand what the characters are talking about.
Genshiken probably has one of the better dub casts that you could hear.

 WEBmikey: Genshiken Vol 1 : 4 of 5
I've been reading the Genshiken manga from the beginning (six volumes so far), but I wasn't sure how I would react to the anime.
Genshiken is about a school club that focuses on anime, manga, and video games, so it's basically the story of some otaku banding together to support each other.
I really like how the story is focusing on Sasahara, especially the use of his internal dialogue, as he struggles to accept the Genshiken as his friends and "people".

Genshiken is a treat right from the opening notes of the OP to the episode preview at the end of each episode.
However, Genshiken's fast-paced OP (and the fact that you only get to view it for 11 episodes) really hooks you and it's a joy ride from there on.
There could be hope for another season though as according to moetron, the Genshiken website has been updated with the final scene from the anime, interesting.

She tells Saki that Genshiken has misused their room and since there are many new groups that need a meeting space, Genshiken must be kicked out.
So Kitagawa is back to her scary self but never the less allows Genshiken to resubmit their activity plan and not closing the group just yet.
The episode ends with Saki being flmailed by Genshiken Iincho regarding her steamy encounter with Kousaka inside the room.

Soon after joining Genshiken, he discovers that the people in the club are nothing more than otakus and lolicons obsessed with doujinshi.
All in all, Genshiken is a great anime that goes over an area of Japan’s sub-culture that is rarely explored and greatly discriminated against.
Well… though it was funny how Saki bitched at everyone in Genshiken, it got a little annoying and sometimes I wanted to mentally slap her myself (of course I would never hit a girl).

Essentially, Genshiken is about this society of losers whose interest in anime and manga have pretty much taken over their lives.
But most of these range from the sublime (wondering what would make a girl interested in you when all you know is anime and building up the courage to take to said girl) to the pathetic (being less concerned for finding medical attention for a swollen hand for being more concerned with acquiring hentai).
Sure the jokes are a riot and the setups seem familiar, but the fact that what the Genshiken people are doing is so normal, I can’t help but enjoy this (which is mazing is this is one anime genre I often have trouble with).

It may just be a coincidence, but that bunny girl in the first picture looks like it is from Cosplay Complex OAV (another anime about otakus, like the title says, cosplaying is the main theme).
I though that the Genshiken Manga was r interesting as it showed many aspect of japanese (mostly otaku) life that aren't too often depicted in regular manga.
I watched the first episode, loved the voices and the way the Genshiken's club room seemed buried in a darkened corner of the building only to be bright and roomy inside.

Genshiken is a popular manga series which focuses on the life of a group of hardcore otaku and the scruffy anime club they run.
A much more traditional anime-styled series, Unbalance is a seinen romance which (in the world of Genshiken) has spawned a flood of doujinshi, figures and fighting games...

In fact, the majority of the show seems to revolve around her attachment to him, and the conflict that her distaste for the otaku lifestyle instigates.
Occasionally, the characters of Genshiken watch the show, talk about it, and even buy fan produced manga devoted to the show at the yearly comic convention. Twelve episodes, an obvious lack of plot, and an abrupt ending leaves many viewers questioning the show's very existence.
Whether you're a casual fan of anime, or a hardened veteran, you'll be able to draw some enjoyment and insights from the characters and their various escapades throughout this short but appealing series. Aaron Clark is a staff writer for The Retriever Weekly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a Genshiken OAV series released at the same time, though.
The Genshiken trading sets are kind of confusing, though - if they are the ones I’m thinking of, then they used some of the same figures in both.
With them having already having a series of Genshiken and KujiAn on DVD I’m sure the producers have a good idea of the comparitive sales figures, even if they are scewed by the fact that Genshiken aired on TV as well.

In volume one of this delightful manga we met Kanji Sassahara, a young Tokyo college student ashamed of his compulsive love of manga, anime and videogames;the hallmarks of the Japanese otaku, or crazily obsessive fan.
Looking for a college club to join, Kanji discovers the Genshiken, shorthand for the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, a motley group of otaku losers who started the club to indulge their manic devotion to all forms of collectible pop culture.
The student government wants to eliminate the Genshiken; Kusakabe suspects the president of the Genshiken is secretly videotaping Ohno changing costumes, and Kanji's sister shows up and, to Kusakabe's consternation, develops a crush on the supercute Kousaka.

To top it off, the opening theme for Kujibiki Unbalance is actually the one that is used as the official opening for this episode whereas Genshiken opening itself is non-existent.
Judging from the exposures that other series receive, however, it does seem as if Genshiken is ignored in favour of other 'big' October titles such as Bleach or Gankutsuou.
But since there are so many anime that will be released this upcoming season, it's understandable that the magazines can't cover each individudal series in great details.

Genshiken, the "Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture" sounds like a real snooze fest, but anyone who has seen the Genshiken anime series (released in the U.S. by Media Blasters) or read the increasingly popular Genshiken manga (published here by Del Rey) knows that Genshiken is an otaku-based comedy of the first order.
The Genshiken Miniature Trading Figures (MSRP $5.99 ea.), which are due out in November, include: Sasahara, Kousaka, Saki, Madarame, Mitusnori, Tanaka and Ohno.
Fans can collect them all to create a fun-filled diorama of the Genshiken meeting room, but they may have to engage in a little trading to come up with a complete set since the figures come mystery boxed, which, of course, is the only way a true otaku would have it.
