		Gentoo penguins are ground nesting birds, making rudimentary nests from stones, sticks, grass, feathers, or practically any material that they can find suitable for the purpose.
		Gentoo penguin populations are characterised by large annual fluctuations in population size and breeding success, with the later ranging between 0.5 and 1.5 chicks fledged per breeding pair.
		Gentoo penguins are also very tolerant of grazing animals, such as sheep, cattle and horses, which often wander around Gentoo colonies without causing alarm.

		Gentoo's portage overcomes a huge number of shortcomings of all distributions based on rpm's, and yet this is still just one of it's many strengths.

		Thankfully, the Gentoo folks have written an excellent handbook that holds your hand and walks you through the whole process.
		So, Gentoo's reputation as being a distribution that requires you to spend days (or weeks, months, years, as the jokes go) compiling is simply unearned.
		Gentoo includes a nice utility called 'genkernel' which, should you choose to use it, compiles the kernel for you (yes, I've gotten lazy over the years).

		It was brought to my attention that some people on the gentoo forums think that I'm the guy who posts some sort of anti-Gentoo threads on Slashdot.
		When you hear a Gentoo user talk about their distribution, usually the first thing you hear is them saying that building from source generally, and a Gentoo system specifically is "so much faster" than any alternative.
		Another thing you hear from Gentoo users is that they have a "much better understanding" of their system on a "low level" because they had to do so many things "by hand" and "from scratch".

		I made two HFS+ partitions, the one on top (which is at the front of the disk) I labelled "Gentoo" and the one on the bottom (at the end of the disk) I labelled "MacOSX".
		Gentoo nicely put a symbolic link called "boot" which points to "." in the /boot directory, so in yaboot.conf I can specify my kernel as either /boot/vmlinux or /vmlinux whichever makes more sense to me when I install the kernel.
		Generally in Gentoo this means the version is marked as experimental.
