  GeoShell - Home
GeoShell is a replacement shell for Windows™ to replace the standard desktop interface.
GeoShell has plugins that add additional functionality like rss readers, weather forecasts, mail checkers, web search bars, virtual desktops and more.

  :: Shell-Shocked :: The GUI Next Door: Geoshell 4.11
Geoshell supports skinning of the bars (and menus, in the newer betas) and four nice-looking skins are included with the package.
Since Geoshell has no default layout and nothing in the shell is really set in stone, it's very hard to talk about learning curves and the way the interface behaves and feels.
Geoshell's menu-driven configuration is intuitive and comfortable, but since you (for some reason) can't get at all settings from the menu you're forced to edit the Registry, which is hardly the epitome of user-friendliness.

 geoShell Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
Some of the nice features that geoSHELL offers are customizable Startup and batch (exec) files, definable function keys, 128 two character hot keys, a command history buffer which you can use to easily recall the last 10 command lines, and the ability to use four drives.
The Startup and batch files make use of geoSHELL commands such as "getkey" and "echo" that allow you to write your own scripts to produce menus or execute multiple GEOS programs.
One of the nicest features of geoSHELL is that you can get a directory listing from the active drive, then position the mouse pointer and just double click on an application or data file name to execute it.
