California domestic partner law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to Geoff Kors, an advocate of the law, up until that time no other US state had a similar law without a mandate from a Court to implement such a law.
According to published reports in the Los Angeles Times, Kors stated, "We don't take very seriously their claim that they're not moving forward for next year." Kors further suggested that the pullback by conservatives may be a ruse to stir support among conservative backers.
Kors told the Times, "It would be very surprising that the extreme right would give up on the largest state in the nation.

Kors added that Schwarzenegger was “understandably not familiar with all the ins and outs” of Sacramento and said that the state “doesn’t shut down during” a transition period between the governor and governor-elect.

California Girds For Marriage Fight   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Equality California’s Geoff Kors and Matt Foreman, of the Task Force, have agreed to work cooperatively on beating back right-wing forces in 2006; the role to be played by Human Rights Campaign is still being debated.
Kors called that estimate a “minimum.” Kors’ group and the Task Force are partnering with several other gay and non-gay civil rights organizations in a campaign committee, Equality for All, which will manage the vote drive.
Kors, however, complained that HRC, with its fund raising, is draining away part of a precious and limited pool of donor money that could be used at a critical time to fight the initiatives.

Boi From Troy » EQCA…Not about the gays after all   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
That may be compelling-enough reason for Geoff Kors to vote against the interests of Californians…but some of us have never agreed with the gay communitiy’s so-called allies.
In fact, telling me that drawing districts that fairly represent their constituents would mean that EQCA would not be able to pass a marriage bill–as they say–makes me think that maybe we shouldn’t be passing a marriage bill at this time.
However, for some reason, Geoff Kors seems to be convinced that we need to support all of these in order to keep our so-called “allies”, whose support of gay rights seems to vary depending on how well we do what they tell us to do.

Kors pooh-poohed the Governor’s emphasis on promoting that noble quality, saying, “Our community doesn’t want to be tolerated.
Noting the anti-Republican nature of Geoff’s group, I observed that he clearly does not speak for me, thus, by “our community,” he could not possibly mean all gay people.
Odd, I had been led to believe that equal protection under the law was an artifact of the 14th amendment, and, as applied to the federal government, the due process clause of the 5th amendment.
