Geoff Gains - Sonik | [PS] Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Geoff kept pushing onward by obtaining any dj gigs he was able to, learning the most early on from a small lounge residency where he was forced to mix a wide variety of genres due to a diverse crowd that ranged from college students to the most cynical Manhattan-ites.
At the middle breakdown, Geoff theoretically defines this composition by the call out, “The dominating force is sound!” That breakdown is emphasized by the dramatic way it comes about with a minor key sweeping tone shooting in after the beats drop, along with a haunting moan-like male chorus that progresses downward in octave.
Geoff felt these sounds were like “sonic booms,” leading to naming the track “Sonik.” Their major accentuation just might make you feel as if they are pulsating through you on the dance floor.

GEOFF: That came about because EMI was sitting on a whole catalog of music from South Africa that they weren't doing anything with: some people there asked us if we'd be interested in it.

When Geoff Cole first put this band together, I was at first a bit apprehensive about whether it would be accepted by some of the jazz fans and clubs on our circuit, but thnakfully the band appear to be winning over the dissenters.

It is a whirlwind mix of prog and structureless jams, beauty and pain, darkness and light, speed and slowness.
