Geoffrey Durham is perhaps best known today for his regular appearances on the cult Channel 4 programme Countdown where his combination of charm, wit and skilful sleight of hand have made him one of the programme's most popular celebrities.
But Geoffrey was growing a little frustrated by the limits the character imposed, and in 1988 he decided to lose the wig and the Spanish accent and appear simply as himself.
Geoffrey is also an experienced stage and film actor, with numerous theatre performances over the years from Macheath in The Threepenny Opera to the title role in Dracula.

The first half is a wonderful mix of 'Classic Durham', including his acclaimed torn and restored newspaper, along with new additions such as a very funny and different version of cards to pocket and the nap hand, both unbelievably performed with brand new decks opened, shuffled and dealt by spectators.
During the interval Geoffrey could be found wandering around the bar and the auditorium amazing the audience 'under their noses' with 'the handkerchief with 5 corners', a rope routine and the appearing ladder, to name but three.

What can you say about Geoffrey Durham that hasn’t been said.
Geoffrey spoke a lot about his new book (which is next in my reading pile at home), and the contents being around bringing out you and how to bring out the best of you, peppered with a few of the solid tricks he’s earned his living from over the years.
The standard magic square routines, don’t really have an ending, but what Geoffrey showed, basically that the magic square was a prediction, proved by having an envelope with the ‘magic total number‘ written in it from before it was chosen, meant there was some purpose to the effect.
