 Caribbean Beat: Archives
Calypso Dreams is the realisation of a long-cherished, idealistic dream of two Americans, Geoffrey Dunn and Michael Horne, whose heartfelt love for and appreciation of calypso and calypsonians couldn’t be more profound if they’d been born and raised within earshot of a Port of Spain panyard.
It was conceived almost two decades ago, when Horne, a music producer and concert promoter, introduced his friend Dunn, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker and award-winning journalist and author, to the music of Trinidad.
A distraught Horne returned from his annual trip to Trinidad Carnival and told Dunn that they had to make the movie, and make it ASAP, no matter what the problems were.

They held the family name Horn while Kings had only a name and/or nickname, Ethelred the Unready, Edward the Confessor, Edgar the Aethling, and Edmund Ironside and so on.
Due mainly to the fact that sons very seldom succeeded the King, but the Horns certainly did through the centuries to this day.

For whatever reason, Cecile is shocked when Raymond casually dumps Elsa (who shared with Cecile a love for a life of play) and announces that he is going to marry Anne.
In no time flat, Anne cracks down on Cecile's carefree attitudes, imploring that she hit the books for the next round of exams and insisting that she cut dead her fling with the stud next door, Phillippe (Geoffrey Horne).
Even more disturbing, she starts to encroach upon Raymond's lifestyle as well, implying that the three should stop hanging with their venal circle of friends.

Bursting with Song--Review of Merrily We Roll Along   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
The Mary/Frank version of "Not a Day Goes By" was recorded very badly, with Jim Walton sounding like he was singing in the back of the room while Ann Morrison was up at the mike.
And the opening number, where the kids start singing over the older Frank's speech, is confusing and hard to follow, even with the libretto at hand, because Geoffrey Horne keeps talking louder as the song swells.
I don't know why they had him talk during the singing; the effect isn't so much creatively dissonant as it is annoying, and I can see how it would have been incredibly annoying on stage.
