Geoffrey Pyke - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Geoffrey Nathaniel Pyke (1894–1948) was a British inventor whose generally unorthodox ideas were often very difficult to implement.
This endeavour, known as Project Habbakuk was investigated by Combined Operations, and had the personal backing of Lord Louis Mountbatten and Sir Winston Churchill, but never reached completion.
On a winter evening in 1948, Pyke shaved his beard and consumed a bottleful of sleeping pills; his landlady found his corpse the following morning.

Geoffrey Nathaniel Pyke, British (1894-1948), eccentric inventor and developer of Project Habbakuk (also spelled Habakkuk), an immense aircraft carrier made of ice for use in WWII.
Two of his subordinates invented "Pykrete" in his honor: an impervious ice mixture made from wood pulp and water.
Anyway, I've checked obits and biographical sketches in the usual sources, plus a 1959 biography of Pyke, but the very beginnings of each man's life consistently go unlisted.

The house made a deep impression on Lovecraft, who was also aware of the strand of folklore concerning New England families who kept ill or deformed relatives hidden in the attic.

When Arthur was mortally wounded in battle with Mordred, he was carried off to the Isle of Avalon so that his wounds might be attended to.
Geoffrey later wrote a poem, the "Life of Merlill," in which he claims Arthur was laid on a golden bed in Avalon and was nursed back to health by Morgan, the Nebulous enchantress.
In fact, Geoffrey states Arthur was not dead and would return to Avalon one day.

Rendezvous with Ivory Forest Alpha -- Tales of the Whoopy-Cat - whoopy-cat.com
There was a lively rumble of laughter and chuckles from the crew as they imagined the scene.  When they had finally calmed back down, their captain continued.
That brought dead silence across the intercom.  Excited minds, still reeling from the story of the ‘ice-ships’, now raced at the possibility that they might now actually get the chance to witness these technological wonders in person!  Everyone anxiously awaited their skipper’s answer.
Pykrete remains a subject of fascination with inventors, scientists and structural engineers; and the wonderful anecdotes surrounding Pyke and Project Habakkuk continue to provide a rich source of amusement for historians to this very day.
