  Ostrogothia - Definition, explanation
Ostrogothia (Östergötland) is a historical Province (landskap) in the south of Sweden.
The traditions of Ostrogothia date back into the viking age, the undocumented iron age, and before, when this region had its own laws and kings (see Geatish kings and Wulfings).
In Ostrogothia, Östgötska, the eastern variety of the Götaland dialect of Swedish is spoken.

Our modern form "Jutes" comes from mediaeval Latin Iuti/Iutae, where the "i" came to be pronounced as a glide and was "hardened" in the French pronunciation of Latin...
It was Jutland, home of the Jutes, which was Beowulf's proper home, and that matches better some of the internal geography of the poem.
Alexander also offers the opinion that Beowulf makes no reference to Christianity, although there are certainly Christian lessons imposed within the poem by the monk(s) who recorded it for us.

Strabo also (Geography, Book 7, Chapter 1, Section 3) mentions that Marbod, after a pleasant sojourn with Augustus, took command of nearly all the tribes in Germania, including the Boutones (attested as Boutonas in the accusative case, and Latinized to Butones), which are generally interpreted as an error for Goutones, Latinized to Gutones.
The Goths are believed to have crossed the Baltic Sea sometime between the end of this period, ca 300 BC, and 100, and in the traditional province of Ostrogothia, in Sweden, archaeological evidence shows that there was a general depopulation during this period.
The settlement in Poland probably corresponds to the introduction of Scandinavian burial traditions, such as the stone circles and the stelae, which indicates that the early Goths preferred to bury their dead according to Scandinavian traditions.
