Geography of Wales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wales borders England to the east and the sea in the other three directions: the Bristol Channel to the south, St George's Channel to the west, and the Irish Sea to the north.
The main population and industrial areas are in South Wales, consisting of the cities of Cardiff, Swansea and Newport and surrounding areas.
The modern border between Wales and England is highly arbitrary; it was largely defined by the Laws in Wales Acts 1535-1542, based on mediƦval feudal boundaries.

The University of Wales Council for Geography emerged from a series of annual University of Wales Colloquia at which geographers from thoughout the University met to discuss topical themes and issues based on common interests in the development of Geography as an academic subject.
Intercollegiate liaison between Geography Departments in the constituent institutions was the primary motivation for its creation but the need for a body to represent Wales on the Council for British Geography (COBRIG) was also of critical importance.
Supported by the University of Wales, Gregynog Colloquium Fund, the meeting was academically stimulating and allowed the sharing of experience and research expertise between the constituent institutions.
